For those of you who follow my blog, I'm sure you've learned that I LOVE tea! I can drink tea and will find a tea that will help in almost any situation. I drink tea when I have a cold, when I have an upset stomach, when I need a good night's sleep, when I'm tired and need energy and when I'm wanting to relax. I even give herbal teas to my kids when they have certain ailments. I constantly research new teas and what effects they can have on the body and I truly believe that here in America, we spend so much time taking prescription medications and not enough time looking for herbal and alternative remedies. Herbal remedies usually take a while before you feel the full effect but a lot of the times, the side effects are minimal.
I recently learned about the Schizandra Berry Tea while watching an episode of Doctor Oz and it sparked my interest because the focus was natural remedies on how to relieve ANXIETY! Now I suffer from anxiety but in certain situations and my anxiety isn't severe. I wouldn't take medications based on my level of anxiety so I'm always looking for natural remedies to relax. Now I'm not saying you should stop taking the medications that are prescribed to you because that could be very dangerous but maybe looking into an herbal remedy if you feel like the medications aren't working is something you should ask your doctor about.
The Schizandra berry is known to Chinese medicine as the "five flavored seed" because it tastes sweet, sour, bitter, acidic and salty all at once. This berry when made in a tea (it is also sold in capsules) can help relieve anxiety and fatigue.
How It Works:
The tea supports the adrenal glands, which is the gland that releases our stress hormones and keeps the gland from overstimulating. When the gland overstimulates it releases adrenaline which causes symptoms of anxiety such as palpitations, sweating, panic etc. Now all of the causes of anxiety are not known which is why doctors have a hard time treating it.
The tea can be consumed regularly throughout the day and is gentle enough to do so. It can be purchased in already made tea bags at most health food stores and online. Drinking this tea regularly can help you feel calm and focused in addition to some many other health benefits.
Other teas that help with anxiety include Chamomile, Peppermint, Lemon balm, Passionflower and Lavendar. With limited side effects it's definitely worth a try!
