UK Producing More & Using More Renewable Electricity in 2011

I was interested to see that the Department of Energy and Climate Change have published their annual report on UK energy. It was interesting because it claimed that energy production in 2011 actually decreased.

?

My initial thought to this was ?could this be due to people using less energy?, with new green conscious focus. Of course if this was the case, there would be a knock on a increase in consumer and business electricity prices. However it seems that it was due to a decrease in oil and gas production ? this happened due to maintenance and also a number of slowdowns on the UK Continental Shelf.

?

Interestingly, electricity that was generated from alternative renewable sources actually increased by a third (33%), showing how people have started to think of alternative options. It became nearly 10% of the total electricity generated by the UK.

?

So it seems that things are moving forward with regard to alternative and renewable energy sources, bit by bit.
