3 Photos - Palm Springs Real Estate-Palm Springs Homes For Sale

historic gate in Palm Springs Walking in Palm Springs: 3 Photos

One of my favorite things to do in Palm Springs, is to take a walk ? usually either right after dawn, or right before dusk ? in one of several of my favorite neighborhoods. There is something about the desert light at these hours that I find calming, hopeful, and restorative.

You might already know about me, that I?m fascinated with old doors, gates, and windows. Several of the historic estates in Palm Springs have beautiful courtyards in front (they were built before the invention of automatic garage door openers; it was a time when people entered their estates through the front.)

In the photo above is an example of the type of gates one often sees ? this one, rod-iron.

Below is a photo of the front of a house that I?ve been strolling by and admiring for almost 25 years (I believe the Kirk Douglas family used to live there ? perhaps they still own it). I love homes that have circular driveways in front, and carports or doors that are at a diagonal (sometimes homes that are boxy and symmetrical and push right up to the property line have a too-commercial look to them, for my taste).

Notice the dancing duo of palm tree in front. There are 2 diagonal carports to the left (carports are a very desirable amenity in Palm Springs ? especially in the summer) and the front gate to the right is also at a diagonal. Well-groomed shrubs ensure privacy without creating that prison-wall look (that is so popular with Los Angeles celebrity homes). Such a beautiful house!

And, finally, below is a photo of David. He likes long walks as much as I do!
